Catch-up: an update on where I’ve been for the past year

Holy goat nipples, Bat Thumb!  Well and truly over a year since I last posted something on this blog.  I think it’s about time I gave all you millions of followers an update as to what has happened lately.

Well, I would, except not all of it is good, and some of it is pretty personal.  Still, nothing to worry about. I’m alive, I’m breathing, I just have a lot going on.

As you will have noticed, I have a new theme.  Gone is the bright white and here is the dark grey and near-blacks that match the deep depression of my soul.  The solid black typefaces that guard the sanctity of … yeah, no, I just felt like a change and this looked really cool in my mind.  There are still some things to be tweaked here and there, but it’s coming on well.

Also, there is a new domain.  When my blog fell into disrepair I abandoned even the domain, and whilst I could easily retrieve it, I think a new address is in order.  So welcome to nathanhawkes.dev.  Simple enough to remember.  Unless you forget who I am, in which case you’re done for.

There’s also an Ask Me Anything function being built for the site, which will hopefully be made into a publicly available plugin.  So far, the bare-bones framework is available, but we shall see how this goes.  It will be launched soon (once I am perfectly happy with it, being the perfectionist that I am).

Plans are going forward.  I’m hoping to blog more, maybe cross-post more with my business site.  I’m also looking at bringing some more personal posts here, so expect more rambling as time goes on, and I’ll add some personal projects to my portfolio that I’ve been working on as demos or just experimenting with something.  There’s also the possibility of using this to showcase some tips and tricks for budding WordPress developers, as well as a few code snippets for your projects.

One big thing on the roadmap is creating a publicly downloadable blank theme for any new developer to start from.  Whenever I create a theme, I always start from a blank theme and build on there.  That saves me having to create the basic structure every single gorram time, and doing that saves countless hours of development work.  Or at least minutes.  It will be as simple as possible and will be well commented on and documented, so hopefully, that can be released into the wild within the coming months.  I’ll update you on that soon.

Other than that, things are going.  Not well, but not terribly.  They’re just going.

How are things going with you?  Let me know what you’d like to see in the comments below.  Also, let me know what you think of the site or if you find any bugs worth reporting.  You can comment below, or you can get in touch.
