Wai Yin Society is a social welfare charity based in Manchester which serves the minority ethnic communities of Manchester. Founded in 1988 by a group of community-minded Chinese women, Wai Yin has become one of the largest Chinese community centres in the UK, sustaining its operations through commissions and contracts with mainstream organisations.
They wanted a new website: fresh, clean, and streamlined. Thanks to our previous work together, they already had the digital infrastructure through their partnership with Microsoft. They were also happy to continue using the WordPress ecosystem which had worked so well for them.
Building on the work of their last website six years ago, I created a new theme and companion plugin, bringing them in line with other projects. I introduced the Elementor page editor to their site and custom page widgets, sourced new charity hosting from Kualo, and partnered with Canva through their non-profit programme to help them create social media graphics. Work to streamline the content is ongoing, and the site is under current maintenance, with other functionality coming soon with fundraising.
